Ferne Clyffe State Park

After church today we went for a hike and picnic at Fern Clyffe State Park. I wonder how it got the interesting spelling?

The views were spectacular. We started with the easy hike around the Ferne Clyffe Lake to se how well I could handle the boy in the back on a hike. This back pack is really a handy little contraption, well worth the money I think.

In general, the views were spectacular. I am quite excited about how much we have been getting out into nature as a family lately. It has been a real bonding experience for us all, and I am sure it is something for Isaiah to look back on fondly. It is also wonderful watching Desi take it all in as he points to all of the beautiful things that interest him.
One thing I love about Southern Illinois Wilderness is that there is so much joy and beauty in the small things. The scenic overviews are nice; the hills are lovely, and you don't need so huge mountain to make it breathtaking. It just IS breathtaking in its own unique way. When I get out often enough, I just feel alive.

Besides, we just have so much fun. It occured to me on the way home today that if I can get pictures from a hike every weekend, it will be like time lapse photography of th efall color change. Little things excite me what can I say?
