Before I tell you about my weekend, I have to continue on about my Christmas Program school rant. I keep getting more pissed about it as time goes by. Now remember, this guy approached me, so I wasn't even being my usual cynical, combative self. But as he ranted on with his bullshit reasoning, contradicting himself by first telling me this comes up every year and then telling me its been an issue once in his 30 years of teaching, I remind him that many people in our community don't celebrate Christmas at all, whether religiously or secularly. I tell him that perhaps they don't make an issue of the program or come to these meetings because they know they will not be heard, or their perspectives will be dismissed.
His VERBATIM response, "Well, that's democracy- majority wins."
Okay, sorry. I know it is not a newsflash that there are still racist idiots in the world.
Lets get on to more positive news of the day.
Yesterday we attended The Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship because our congregation, along with another emerging congegation in Cape Girardeau, MO, is the recipient of a substantial grant award from the Chalice Lighters, and we had to pick up the check during the award service.
After the service we ate lunch at the Longbranch Coffeehouse, where Adam and I met and courted, and then went to Isaiah's favorite park, The Jeremy Rothman Memorial Park, which is a pretty damn cool place.
The park holds a huge castle with tons of small crawl thru spaces, trap doors, tunnels, and bridges. You can run around inside for a long time before you really figure things out.
The baby was fascinated as this was only his second trip to the park. He stared in wide eyed wonderment at the many sculptures, wizards, castle, and dragons in every direction. I must say he fit right in his little gnome coat.
Everywhere you looked, some mythical creature was staring at you from some corner....
Or from the trees above....

After the castle wore us out, we abandoned Isaiah to tour the grounds. There were many creatures to vist, including wizards, and the wonderful dragons.
My favorite dragon in the place reminded of the dragon from Never Ending Story, one of my favorite childhood movies. Actually, it was more of one of my brothers favorite films, but I can appreciate it now.
If you are ever near Giant City Park, I would definately stop by this park. It is right off of Giant City Road.
