Spring Forward

Tomorrow is a big church day. I haven't led a service since I did the intergenerational one about Langston Hughes in February. Tomorrow the topic is feminism today (my part, short and sweet)and the religious development of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a suffrage activist (someone else's part, the sermon).

I am looking forward to sharing a little bit about my personal journey into feminism, my shock at not being able to adequately explain to my 16 year old daughter exactly what a feminist is working for in 2007, and sharing some Natalie Merchant- who was my catalyst into feminist thought and music. It all started at a 10,000 maniacs concert in St. Louis when I was sixteen. Natalie Merchant said in between songs, "You know what they say about girls who wear Birkenstocks and read Mother Jones." I had no idea what Mother Jones was at the time, but I asked my dad the next day and he immediately subscribed to it for me. I was hooked on politics from that point on.

Ought to be a nice morning, even if we do lose an hour of sleep tonight.

And on that topic, Desi went down with only minor fit throwing tonight. I am not sure what has been going on with him the last few nights, unless its just those cantankerous eye teeth coming in. He has never been a great sleeper, but he has never been quite so ...vocal about going down.
