My full intention with this thread was to pull out some embarrassing pictures of myself from high school and post them for your laughing pleasure. When I went to look for said pictures though, I found 4 photo albums full of pictures of other people.
This one however, showcases my stint as a wanna-be debutante during my junior year in high school.
Given my current status as an ultra liberal, over the top politically correct, green party supporting (okay not really, but kind of), corporate bashing, communist sympathizing (okay, again not really- but sort of- more socialist) hippie loving, granola crunching, human rights activist, Unitarian Wacko- I am a little embarrassed to have participated in such an event as this.
The event was the South East High School Invitational Ball. The absolute culmination of snobbery and stuck up-ed-ness.
Basically- a small clique of girls forms in the eighth grade and decides that THEY are the invite group, THEY are the ones worthy of such an honor, and THEY spend the next three years raising money to put on the Invite, in which only THEY will be presented as court. The girls pay for everything, including the tux of the date they invite.
The real snobbery comes in the fact the we actually sat down and went through the year books checking off who would be "invited" to attend, and of course who would NOT be invited to attend.
Totally petty and ridiculous. I remember so much bickering and nonsense. We did have fun in the end, and I scored myself a pretty awesome date. I wonder if this is still happening?

I've never met a real life debutant before you.
hey missy- that would be wanna-be debutant.
a pretty awesome date? come on, he was scared to even try to kiss you, at least a bit because your brother threatened him. wimp. he was kinda cute, though, in a geeky sort of way. you looked beautiful, though.
oh no, he was hot! but I think he did kiss me, even if he was scared. and then I think my brother did try and hit him but....
