Debate Party at My House Tonight.

Just a little reminder to all that tonight is the presidential debate, and I'll be watching with great interest.

We'll have a little debate party here with good food and good wine, good friends and good conversation.

Presidential politics always make for a good party.

McCain is reporting now that he will indeed be there, so we can rest assured that we will get at least a presidential debate.

Anyone want to take bets on whether we will see a Vice Presidential debate this election season?

If you need dinner ideas, you can always have what we are having!

Presidential Curried Potato Stew:

(this is off the top of my head, so adjust to make sense for you)
  • 1 pound of small, round yellow potatoes, peeled
  • 4 cups of vegetable broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 parsnip, grated
  • about 1 square inch of fresh ginger, grated
  • minced garlic to taste
  • a cup of crushed cashews (I always use my mortar and pestle for this)
  • whole mushrooms, scrubbed
  • one onion, chopped into rather large pieces
  • bell peppers (optional)
  • 1 tsp. lemon peel, grated
  • crushed red pepper to taste
  • 1 TBS Coriander powder
  • 1 TBS Turmeric
  • 1 TBS Cumin Powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 can of coconut milk
  • fresh cilantro to taste
  1. start vegetable broth to boil, keep at a low rolling boil
  2. add peeled potatoes
  3. add ginger & garlic to pot
  4. add spices
  5. grate carrot and parsnip directly into pot
  6. add bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms
  7. add cashews and coconut milk
  8. simmer until mushrooms and potatoes are completely cooked
I'll be serving this with some sort of red wine, but I serve everything with red wine.

Happy Debating!
