I think I'll call this one Mandy. or Mary Amanda.

I finished my third ceramics class last night. Not everything has been through the kiln yet, but these three pieces are officially done. I love the box I made, and I love the cup I made even more.

I have to admit that the little lady I made was at first a bit of a disappointment to me though. I guess over glazing is a part of the learning curve in ceramics, but overall, I love her.The more I look at her, the more I see her personality, and the more I see what she stands for.

Her hair reminds me of my old friend Mandy, and her cute little nose too. Add to that the fact that I know my friend Mandy is a friend to women and the goddess theme in general, especially as it relates to the woman form and midwifery, and suddenly- she has a name: Mandy, or maybe more officially, Mary Amanda.

So, Mandy- if you are out there still, this piece is dedicated to you and to our friendship.

Thank you for your hard work on behalf of women everywhere. Thank you for dedicating much of your life to supporting women in childbirth as a doula and a friend. Thank you for being a strong and important advocate for those who need it during a highly emotional time in their lives.

Thank you for being a loving mother, sister, daughter, and aunt to all of the children in your life, and their parents. And perhaps especially thank you for being such a loving and accepting force for those who are affected by special needs such as autism and other autism related differences.

The world is a better place becuase of women like you.

I love ya girl.
