So, I voted. Now, I wait.

My eyes popped open this morning before six and there was no going back to sleep for me. I was too anxious to get out and vote. My husband went first while I made breakfast. I had planned on waiting until later in the morning, when I took my mother in law to vote, but there was no waiting. When Adam walked through the door, I pretty much walked out. I couldn't wait another second.

Being the beautiful fall morning that it is, I decided to walk to the polls. It won't surprise anyone who knows me, but I teared up on my way. I was finally going to vote for Barack Obama. I have never been more excited to vote, or more anxious about getting it done.

I am sure I won't be able to keep away from the news today, but I am going to give it a good effort. I plan on spending my day doing some cleaning, tying up some loose ends, and getting some work done. Getting a few deep breaths in won't hurt me a bit either.

I also hope to spend some time outside in this glorious weather playing with my boy, appreciating every second with him. I mean the little one, the one who told me this morning in a sweet three year old voice, "When I grow up, when I get really big, I am going to vote for John McCain."

I will buy food and drinks, and cook and clean, all the while counting the minutes til the polls close and hopefully, maybe, we might know SOMETHING. Tonight, I will gather with close friends and loved ones and do my best to breathe it all in. We'll eat and drink and play cards and watch the news. Above, we will HOPE!

In the mean time, I am proud to know that I made a difference today. I hope you did too.

Hi Shannon,

I, too, teared up while voting for Obama today, and my sweet 3 y.o. boy ran around his pre-school class this morning with his thumbs up in the air yelling "I'm John McCain, I'm John McCain!" De-lurking here (for the first time ever on a blog!) because I am moved thinking about how many of us today are so deeply yearning for our country to have the chance to become its best self.
Just a note that as a fellow UU and mom, I very much enjoy the multi-dimensional aspects of your blog! Peace to you and your beautiful family.
