Travel Journal: Tlaquepaque

I am sitting here wanting to post all about my trip to Guadalajara to you, and I find myself almost at a loss for words. I simply feel grateful to have had the opportunity to get this very small, small glimpse into a city very far away from the one in which I live - the farthest from home I have ever been.

These pictures are from the area in which my friend has an apartment.  The name of the area/district is called Tlaquepaque.  This is where we ate most of our meals, had quite a few drinks, walked through some markets and shopped some as well.  Mostly though, I just looked, looked, and looked some more. I tried to take it all in, but much is already lost on me I am sure.

I only wish I had had more time and had been there through a weekend as well. I suppose I also wish I had taken more pictures, but I will just have to do my best to scrape the myriad images into my memory.  I was only there a few days but I think I have weeks of sensory input still to process.

There is some information about Tlaquepaque at this wikipedia link, and I will post some more pictures from here as I can.  Unfortunately, life & work is not staying on hold for me as much as I would like it to upon my arrival home. Re-focusing my energies is a bit more difficult for me than I thought it would be. The good news about that though is that unexpected opportunities were waiting for me in my inbox when I got here- so at least the difficult and busy re-adjustment will be worth it.

I really want to thank my friend Luke and his roommate for hosting me for three nights as well. They had not even had their apartment in possession one week before I arrived, so it was extra gracious of them to let me crash in their wonderful home. In addition to that, I seriously covet that plant on the table and would have loved to bring one of these tequila decanters home with me too (and bringing some extra tequila might have been pretty good too!).

(note to Luke: I hope it is okay for me to post these picture of your place. Just say so if it isn't okay and I will edit! and also- If I get anything wrong in these next posts, please speak up. Gracias!)
