dog do dilemma

I need some advice and/or suggestions on the best way to deal with dog poop in an economical and environmentally friendly way.

My 12 year old currently uses plastic grocery bags, two at a time to take care of it. However, we usually use canvas shopping bags, so often run out of plastic bags.  Intentionally getting plastic bags from the store doesn't seem like the best option when keeping the earth in mind.

I am curious what others do?  I have thought about composting it but that seems like it would get pretty stinky and we live in a busy neighborhood.

Well, if anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate them. Thank you!

You can buy or make a poop compost "bin" that you drop enzymes in to help it decompose faster. Caveat: if you have clay gumbo soil, it's much more difficult, as that type of soil doesn't want to absorb the decomposition.
