Travel Journal:Montreal, Cathedrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde

Walking back to the hotel from Old Montreal, I had sort of resigned myself to not seeing the one cathedral I had hoped to see. I hadn't written down the name of the cathedral or the address; the only information I remembered about it was that the cathedral I was looking for was a miniature scale of the famous St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. In some places I have read that it is a 1/4 sized replica, and in others I have seen it is a 1/3 size replica. Either way, it seemed like something I would want to see.

So, imagine how happy I was while reluctantly walking toward the hotel, I looked up and saw
the Cathedrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde (Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral).

While the rest of the family trekked back to the hotel for rest and relaxation, I stepped inside to find mass just finishing up.  It was truly a pleasure to hear the rituals of Catholic Mass done in French. [You can read more about the cathedral at this wikipedia link]

The Notre-Dame Basilica was certainly more luminescent,
but this one was much more appealing to me,
not to mention just simply soothing.

And yes, a tear or two did fall from my eye when I sat down to take it all in.

Thankfully, this time, being in no hurry at all,
I was able to step outside and explore a little more.

I walked back to the hotel feeling peaceful and happy.

I will end this post with a song that I have loved since the moment I first heard it. Joan Osborne sings Cathedrals:

Have a blessed and beautiful day!

Interesting that Mary Queen of the World is just 1/4 of St. Peter. Shouldn't the saint venerated as the Mother of God take precedence over the Vicar of Christ? ;)

Good pix, Shannon!
