Parenting Haikus

Yesterday I did one of those little time sucks where I followed the links through random stranger's blogs.

I ended up at Mama Says Om where they were reviewing a book called Haiku Mama and announcing a contest to win a copy of the book by writing your own Haikus. A few people have left some really good ones.

I freakin love Haikus. I think it might be favorite poetry style. They are easy to write (sort of, sometimes) and fun. I remember spending HOURS at a time writing haikus as a kid. I wish I still had some of them.

Go give it a shot, there or here. I would love to read your haikus!

remember: 5 syllables on the first line, 7 on the second, and 5 again on the last.

Here are the ones I came up with yesterday. I may try and write some more today if I get the chance.

wishing for perfect
in parenthood or childhood
is a waste of time

itty bitty toes
pattering down the hallway
makes for pleasant sound

recognizing you
as who you are not who
we want you to be

a sleeping baby
on my lap breathing deeply
makes me hold my breath

watching these children
grow learn fly fall kiss reach cry
parent observer

i love to love you
proud to guide you through all of
the journeys life brings

your face is changing
your chest is broad, arms are strong
yet still a small boy

i must stop writing
haikus on parenting now
so i can parent
