Once again, for lack of a better blog entry, I'll just post something church related. Here is our general line up and plans for Winterfaith. The individual services are looking amazing! I'll post more about this as it is happening.

The Mt. Vernon Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is pleased to announce plans for its upcoming Winterfaith Celebration. Winterfaith is a two month long interfaith celebration of the many religious and secular holidays that occur during the winter months. The purpose of Winterfaith is to encourage the growth of interfaith activity in the Mt. Vernon area, to celebrate the diversity of religious beliefs found in the community, and to create an atmosphere of collegiality and universality among all people of faith. The fellowship will welcome speakers and musicians from many faith traditions at regular Sunday services and at special events. Winterfaith services will take place every Sunday in December and January, and there will also be a special Winter Solstice evening service and a New Year’s Day potluck. Childcare will be provided at no cost for all Winterfaith services and activities. The Winterfaith schedule of events is as follows:

Sunday, December 2: Rabbi Joshua Taub, of the Temple Emmanuel of Creve Coeur, Missouri will present “Triumph of Light over Darkness,” at this service in recognition of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. The fellowship will also recognize the beginning of the Advent season on this day.

Sunday, December 9: The Shawnee Dharma Group, a Sangha from Carbondale, will visit the fellowship for a service in recognition of Bodhi Day, a Buddhist holiday.

Sunday, December 16: This service will recognize the Muslim holidays of Hajj and Eid al Adha, the Catholic Holiday of Posadas Navideñas, and the third Sunday of Advent.

Friday, December 21: This special evening service will celebrate the Winter Solstice.

Sunday, December 23: This is the final Sunday of Advent, and a celebration of the Christian holiday of Christmas.

Sunday, December 30: The fellowship will recognize the holiday of Kwanza, and the upcoming New Year’s Day.

Tuesday, January 1: The Fellowship will host a New Year’s Day potluck dinner.

Sunday, January 6: This is the week of the Christian holidays of Epiphany and Theophany.

Sunday, January 13: Swami Chetanananda will join us for a talk on “The Harmony of All Religions.” This week hosts the days of the Hindu Lohri Bonfire Festival, Pongal (Hindu Thanksgiving), and the Birth of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sunday, January 20: This is World Religion Day, a Baháʼí holiday. A number of people from a Baháʼí group in the St. Louis area will speak on this day.

Sunday, January 27: The final day of Winterfaith celebrates the birthdays of author Lewis Carroll and musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Musicians Campbell, Darwin, and Tori Walters will play some of the music of Mozart, while members of the fellowship intersperse readings by Lewis Carroll. The last service of Winterfaith will be followed by the celebration of National Chocolate Cake Day during social hour after the service!
